About Us
The Shelter Bay Yacht Club (SBYC) was formed in 1977 and is located in the community of Shelter Bay, on the west side of the Swinomish Channel, across from the town of La Conner. Membership in SBYC is open to any resident of Shelter Bay or community marina tenant. Our training efforts, social events and cruises are all geared to encouraging safe boating practices while stimulating neighborly spirit among boating enthusiasts.
September through March membership meetings are combined with dinners and other social events held at the Clubhouse. The events range from fully catered meals to very casual potluck dinners. Informal potluck BBQs are held at the picnic area near the Clubhouse each month during the summer.
A full schedule of cruises is planned from April through September. These consist of a variety of destinations and range from two-night trips to weeklong cruises. The cruises provide a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and strengthen existing friendships all while enjoying some of the great boating destinations in our area.
The full schedule of events for the year is published in our monthly newsletter the Dolphin, which can be found in the Main Menu above under "Newsletter".
Membership Application forms are available in the Shelter Bay Community office or under "New Member Information" on the Club Information Menu as a PDF for your printing. Further information can be obtained from any of the club officers listed on the Officers page. Initiation fee is $100 and yearly dues are only $80. An additional benefit of membership is the ability to stay at over 65 participating reciprocal yacht clubs at no or little cost while cruising. This alone may pay for the cost of membership!
